Electronic waste, known as "e-waste", includes computers, technology equipment, etc., that are deemed obsolete or unwanted and need to be disposed of. Statistics are staggering regarding the amount of e-waste that currently exists, with an even greater amount anticipated in future years. Much of the current e-waste is not being recycled or improperly disposed of.
Why Recycle Our E-Waste?
Recycling and properly processing e-waste is essential for several reasons. Electronic equipment is made up of a multitude of components which contain toxic substances, e.g. carcinogens such as lead, mercury, and arsenic, that constitute hazardous material and must be processed accordingly to stay out of the ground, air and water supplies. E-waste also contains valuable materials, such as gold, silver, copper, etc., that can be recovered by recyclers, creating an economic advantage to recycling e-waste material.
